Objectives:

1) Review the evidence supporting the analgesic sparing effect of intravenous lidocaine for perioperative pain management.
2) Review the currently proposed dose regimen of intravenous lidocaine for perioperative analgesia.
3) Highlight the potential benefits and risks of intravenous lidocaine for perioperative pain management.
4) Present a study proposal
