Journal Club Theme: "Anesthesia and the Operating Room Efficiency"

Objectives:

1) Discuss the "production-line" pressure put on anesthesiologists to improve OR efficiency, particularly in academic centers.

2) Determine the impact of anesthesia versus other factors on OR efficiency.

3) Compare the impact of anesthesia resident teaching versus surgical resident teaching on OR efficiency and cost.

4) Look at some clinical and administrative models proposed to improve OR efficiency.

5) Introduce clinicians to the terminology and processes used by hospital administrators evaluating OR efficiency.
